The three yellow-breasted birds, one looking indignantly at the viewer, are painted in an elaborate style. The tree branches are covered with “spirit dots” in ink and mineral blue color. These dots indicate lichen, although in other paintings they may indicate small petals or leaves, little sprouts, or growths on rocks. Falling leaves are painted in “bone style” which means they are outlined in ink.
